The College of Charleston men's and women's soccer teams play at Patriots Point Athletics Complex in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The $6.5 million facility is home to the Cougar soccer, softball, as well as the baseball programs.
The main building is equipped with locker rooms, a meeting area and press areas for all teams. Also housed there are concessions and a full laundry facility. The 35-acre complex also includes softball and baseball practice fields as well as five Mt. Pleasant youth soccer fields. An expanded state-of-the-art training building that fulfills the medical needs of all the student-athletes at Patriots Point.
Patriots Point was completed in the fall of 2000 and was a collaborative effort between the College of Charleston, the Town of Mt. Pleasant, and the Patriots Point Development Authority. The complex operates on a joint agreement between Mt. Pleasant and CofC concerning the use and maintenance of the fields.
"We maintain the playing surface like a golf course fairway," said Kevin Taylor, Patriots Point Facility and Ground Manager and a goalie on Clemson's 1987 national championship team. "It's as good a surface as I've played on or any golf course fairway that I've seen."
"If I was a young man or woman I'd want to play at the College of Charleston and Patriots Point Stadium because it's as good a soccer facility as there is in the nation," added Taylor, who worked as a golf course superintendent for 11 years.
